Living On Your Own

Moving out is a huge step. You’ll have to take charge of a lot of things – including your prescribed CF treatment. If you’re moving far from home, you may need to get a new CF Care Team and CF Care Center. This may also be the time you switch from pediatric care to adult care.

If you’re moving into student housing, you may want to ask a few questions first.

Some examples are:

  • Is it possible to have my own room?

  • Is it possible to have a private bathroom?

  • Is air conditioning available?

Let your school’s housing department know that you have CF so they can help you find the best possible living situation. Once you’re in your new housing, think carefully about where you want to keep your prescribed treatment supplies. If you store your medications or nebulizer where you can easily see them, you may be more likely to use them. As you already know, sticking to your prescribed treatment routine is an important part of managing CF.
